Up-town girl.........

Hi Sweet-peas.......

Dunedin is such a beautiful city, with wonderful buildings and fabulous old churches.
Its lovely to wander around on a sunny winters day.
It also has some fantastic op-shops.
That makes for a happy girl
up-town.

What Joy looks like...........

Hi Sweet-peas.....

Oh what a wonderful week of fun things happening!

On Tuesday night we had the catwalk show for the 'Cadburys Couture wearable Art'........it was such a wonderful night. I was so so nervous on the catwalk.........my legs were shaking so much and as the dress was very restricting I think I may have held my breathe for the length of it.

The theme was 'What Joy looks like' and you had to use the all of the contents from your entry pack combined with other material to achieve your artwork.
As you can see we all got tin-foil wrapping in a rainbow of colors, mine was gold and orange polka-dot.
My entry was called 'Chasing rainbows' and was about a Cinderella moment. The transformation when we go from wearing a sack to being a sparkly princess and feeling amazing.
This is the first dress I have ever made!!!!!!!
She was all hand sewn, I have to say that working with tin-foil and sacking was 'beep beep beep'.
With out a pattern I just cut the fabrics using one of my 50's dresses as a guide and then lots of spray glue for the foil..........which just rips so easily, eekkk.........more beep beeps.
Anyway it made it through the show which was great.
We meet some gorgeous people and the creations were incredible.
The winner is to the left of me in the last photo.......called 'Wonder Wahine'........Wahine is maori for women...........it was fabulous and the girls who made it were so lovely.
Well deserved.

'Double Frocking' for winter............

Hi Sweet-peas......

I am liking wearing dresses over dresses at the moment........a bit of 'double frocking' for winter. This wee home made rose dress was a nice find at Sallies, as was the little cream hand-knit cardigan and
the brown crochet bag is a new favourite at the moment.....from 'Modern Miss'.
I wore this to class on Saturday..............oh its so much fun.........
We have been learning to spin and this week we did some needle felting........its brilliant, next week weaving, I can't wait.
Now if I could just get this crocheting thing right.....my first attempt looks like a fur-ball a cat threw up.
Oh well...........I may not be able to double crochet but I always have double frocking.

Getting ready for spring..........

Hi Sweet-peas.....

We have been busy little garden bunnies........it was time to tidy up all the dead growth, cut back some trees and clean out the glasshouse. We also decided to make the big veggie garden more manageable by making smaller bricked areas and a path in the centre. I then made a stick tee-pee thing to grow some sweet-peas on in summer, that should keep the wee honey bees happy.
Look at the little green shoots that have poked their little heads out.......spring is on its way.

The big project that I was working on last week was an entry in to the Cadburys Chocolate Carnival wearable arts competition.........I found out yesterday my entry has been selected for judging next Tuesday.......so excited. I will let you poppets see what I made after that.

Now since we are on the subject of creating something special,  its not to late to get your entry pack for the Fabulous 'Frockstars' competition.
All you wonderful talented and super stylish poppets should have a go.
Come on spring into action.........

Because your busy.......you play?????

Hi Sweet-peas.....

Oh I am so sorry I have been out of little old blogland........I have been working on a project and it has to be ready by Friday, its all very exciting.
It is something I have wanted to do for years.
Eeeekkk fingers crossed it all works out.....I will show and tell if it does.
Sooooo when you have a deadline I always seem to be naughty and find ways to be side tracked and play.

Like a quick trip into Lawrence in my red corduroy dressing gown, worn as a jacket, sporting the little yellow scarf and satchel handbag all op-shopped last week.

Then of course there is always time to tease Mr Trouser........one newspaper hat........totally and absolutely destroyed......look at that innocence little furry face.
Ok Ok I must run my little poppets......I have so much more to do and the deadline is bitting at my ankles.

Finally stopping........

Hi sweet-peas.....

Do you have one of those places that you drive past hundreds of times and you say 'I must stop there one day'?
Well the other day we stopped.......
This old sod cottage is on State Highway 1 on the way to Balclutha, its so cute nestled into some gnarly  big macrocarpa trees. Its open to the public to just pop on in.
So we did.........set out as it would have been in the 1800's with all the essential vintage pieces, giving you a peek into how simple life was back then.....hmmm no wardrobe???
I so wanted to play house and clean up all the yucky cluster flies on everything.
Alas my magic powers to walk through the protective cage was not working.
Pleased we finally stopped.
